I've noticed in the course of my life as a witch, that when a candle is properly carved, annointed and empowered it will often burn away in as little as two hours. Bearing in mind that the average candle life should be six to eight hours I think it reflects the power of the spell being released. Do you agree and how long does you candle normally take to burn?
your a witch if you practice witchcraft, your not born with it and its not a bloodline or a species. If you wanna be a witch just go ahead and cast spells. If you wanna be wiccan, however, that's a different story.
I think this is a common misconception of witchcraft Incompertus. Yes you can be a witch without being Wiccan but as a result you have less understanding of the way it all works and this diminishes the amount of power you have access to, to vibrate the web of life. In point of fact Wicca is the word used by the Romans to describe witches they came across during their invasions of northern Europe. Traditionally the Wicca path was taught alongside the craft and it's only been in the last 30 - 40 years that the two have been separated. Personally I think this is a great shame because the Wicca path is not only one of great peace but it also teaches us how we fit in and correlate to our fellow man from the family through to those who "govern" us ( for want of a better word here ).
Witchcraft and the Wiccan way is something you are generally called to. You start as a neophyte and undergo a year and a day of intense training to learn all the different aspects of the craft. There is much to learn in the way of different spell types, meeting the Goddess in her three forms, The God in his two. Learning Tarot-craft, Runemal and other forms of divination. Opening your psychic centers and learning astral travel etc.
Training usually starts at Halloween as this is the Wiccan new year. The day the God dies and enters the underworld. If you complete your training you may then be initiated as a witch and will begin to build real power in spell-craft and Sabbat / Esbat rituals.
It depends. I agree occassionally if a true spell is being cast. If it is just a spell made up by a human who doesn't understand a minor fraction of true wiccan spells, then I would say it does not reflect the power of the candle. I have only begun my studies of magick, so forgive me if I am incorrect.
Almost correct Gabriel my friend. It's the spell that holds the power. The candle is only the vehicle we used to send it on its way. It's one of the focal points to concentrate the direction we want to send the energy in to initiate change on the particular strand of life we want to change. To my mind if the candle burns faster it reflects the power flowing through it. I was just wondering if this is how it works for other witches too.
The candles I use are standard eight inch and the amount carved from them is negligable being less than 0.001% of the total volume of wax lost in the carving process. This wouldn't explain the decrease in burning time.
