even if they are downplayed it is a really good book
and you can't expect a human who is trying there best not to put it into the whole myth area to get all the facts right
:)
She created her own mythology of the vampire which is what made it interesting to a whole bunch of people, especially to my age group because the books deal with teens on the verge of being grown-ups, or at least having to make grown-up decisions. If you stick to the classic ideal of vampires you have to deal with the whole no sunlight issue, the blood issues, etc, which would limit what you could do in the modern sense. She was going for mainstream. I also think that like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she's using the whole vampire theme as a sort of metaphor for high school. Then again, I haven't read the books. No desire to. *giggle* I know, you're probably going, "then shut up, Bella!" But I heard the books are good. My friends keep threatening to tie me down and read them to me. If they do, I will let you know what I think. =]
i agree with you, even if it was a good book, which it is, she made vampires sound like, to me, kinda sissyish. i mean making your own mythology for vamp.s is fine but if its diffrent myths then its a different creature, am i right?
Exactly New Mythology New Creature Its like The Highlander Series, great movie and great tv show, he's immortal, but not a vampire he can eat and be in the daylight, but they can't have babies either. As a vampire I don't walk about in the sunlight, I don't care who I love, I have no intentions of being a crispy vampire.
She made them way too perfect, but in a way it's kind of flattering, they have no faults and their beautiful. But I understand, it's nothing like the real deal but what do you expect from a human who probably never met a vampire before?
What is wrong with the traits....
Lets see. If you go by the traditional, Vampires do not walk about in daylight for one. Two vampires come in many forms not all are beautiful, Love Anne Rice, but not all are drop dead gorgeous. Their beauty and glowing skin is exagerated. Finally, and my biggest upset with the books , which I still like, vampires are dead. As a dead thing blood does not surge through our bodies as it does through the living. Oh I do not doubt that a vampire can have sex, but procreate. Vampires do not have babies with mortals!!! There is no blood pumping to that necessary organ, or to any other organ. Hearts do not pump, stomaches do not digest food, which by the Way if I recall right Edward had pizza in the first book. Blood taken from a victim flows through the vampires veins and thus provides the oxygen needed to keep muscles and brain functioning, but there is no heartbeat and thus no blood flow, which is why they must feed.
