whats a fairy or a faery?
okay, im not retarded. im just really confused. fairies i always thought to be tiny fluttery people with wings. but some people on her are apparently fairies (or faerys)
PLEASE someone explain to me.
and what is the difference between faires and faeries or fae
Aren't fairies like that, except these fairies are humans with fairy genetics bred into them by some type of magic? How could a tiny fairy be with a human though? I have read the theory of awakening fae having fae genetics but in the case of fairies aren't they too tiny??
Fae is a generic term meaning all Elves, Fae, Nymphs, magical creatures etc... who came from a different world (dimension? planet?). Fairy/Faery/Faerie are all different spellings used interchangably...
Fairies have magical powers, are supposedly ditzy with short attention spans, love glitter and shiny objects, are freedom loving creatures and beautiful things such as flowers... They follow a Faerie Queen, who is supposed to awaken and guide the awakened Faeries...
Some people have claimed to have seen actual faeries that are tiny and fly around, but these fairies that have awakened... Which way is it? Human and fae genetics combined?? Or some sort of rebirth as a human?? I've seen it posted before that fae don't get reborn into human babies... Is it both?
*giggles* I believe your word confusion is just a difference in language barriers. The words of old english have changed, just like how American English (which I am fluent in), is different from British, even though they are both speaking English!! The old way of saying Faerie, has merely been respelled to be Fairy... I don't think it is any different...
Fairies are supposedly eternally young or immortal beings, that are beautiful, and use glamour magic to change their appearance/perform illusions. They are tiny tricksters with wings, that fly around and cause mischief, ie. they move items one place to another, or "stealing" if they forget to return something, only to end up returning it somewhere else. According to stories, a lot of mischief has been blamed on fairies.
Fae is a very broad term, covering the entire alien race of beings that are not human, don't originate from this Earth, and happen to usually be beautiful with perfect/balanced physical delicate features. Only creatures that don't fall under the term Fae are usually Angel/Demons/Dragons/Vampires? There's countless races that fall under the term Fae... From flying creatures, to land based, to creatures that live in the water and swim...
Simply, Fairies and Fae have several myths... Who can really post the truth of how a Fairy is in a human form?
In England the difference between Faery and fairy is that faery is used to describe the Fey folk and fairy is a detrimental slang term for male homosexuals. As for Fey folk being incarnate in human form. It does happen. My understanding is that it all started back in the dark ages. If memory serves me right the tale I heard relates to a couple of king Arthur's knights who, while seeking the blessed Isle of Avalon stumbled through the mists into the Faery kingdom. Here the dallied for a few days but when they returned to the clearing where they'd let their horses they found only the skeletal remains of them. Even the saddles had perished so long had they been gone. While there one of the Fey had 'fallen' for one of them. I believe it may have been Gwain. Apparently she missed him so much when he'd gone that she began to pine away so Oberon gave her dispensation to go and look for him with the proviso that she be back within one moon if she didn't find and marry him. At Arthurs court Gwain refused to recognise her for fear of being ridiculed so denied her. Needless to say she was heartbroken and fled back to the forest. So upset was she that she forgot the passage of time. One night she looked up and saw the moon was full and ran for the glade where the portal opened between the worlds but alas she arrived just to late and lost her faery brightness as she turned to human. She was always Faery inside though. In time she met a kindly woodsman who loved her and stood by her. She strove to please him but her heart always belonged to Gwain. The children she bore the woodsman are the forebears of modern human fey folk.
IMO, fairies/fairy are the individual beings/types of the Fae species (<--tried to make that word plural, ah well). In other words, the animal kingdom is to Fae as a mammal is to a fairy. A bit hard to explain because it's all semantics and syntax but I tried.
People say they are fairy either because the have actual fairy origins through blood, like from the Tuatha de Danann in the British Isles or because they are a fairy in a spiritual sense (fairy at soul/heart).
The tiny fluttery beings are fairies but a different kind, called pixies, I believe. Though, I'm not sure if the difference in name really matters.
