fairies and vampires

vampire fairy twilight goth emo punk sk8er meeting place

I am recently very intrigued by the energies, creatures and spirits found in the waters of this world. My interest stems from this - if this planet is covered in so much water - why do we not encounter more of its more interesting inhabitans and do they actually have more influence on us than we migt think? We own the forest, the dark alleyways and the skies...but the depths of the canyons under tons of water remain a mystery to me...and many others I am sure - what are your thoughts?

their were mermaids, and still might be today, yet the only thing is that they have mostly chose human form, that is what i believe,

Mermaids...I have been looking into mermaid lore and there is such a vast array of different interpretations throughout cultures and religions and scientific communities that one is often left with the joy of choosing one's own favourite interpretation!

I am also fascinated by the thought of what intelligent species might dwell deep beneath the oceans, unknown to the dry world. Jim, in vampires, posted a very interesting discussion on the possibility of vampires (who don't require oxygen) someday moving into the oceans. What might we find?
Well, mythology is replete with sea creatures. We have the kraken, a squid-like monster that could take a humanish form at times and either curse or bless.
There were sirens, a malevolent form of mermaid, but lacking physical form - they were essentially water spirits, who liked to claim the souls of drowned sailors.
Then, of course, there were mermaids, who seemed to be entirely motivated by sex. The only problem was, they were so good at sex, whichever man they took usually never returned to the human world. They lost their minds and became will-less idiots who then drowned.
Then, of course, you have the sea Gods, a tempermental bunch at best. Too much info to get into there!
In native american legend, there were powerful spirit creatures called the Manitou, basically freshwater dragon-serpents, equivalent of the Loch Ness monster.
The Indians also usually believed in Water Woman, a malevolent witch who lived underwater, but could walk on land at certain times. Heroes were always failing at killing her.
The intelligence of Dolphins is very suspect. I expect it will be discovered at some point that Dolphins are actually sentient.

Amazing to think about, isn't it?

im intrigued that you mentioned Dolphins, for i think that you are right. although i don't believe that the mermaids were just spirits of the deep, they were also informers of who is coming across the sea.

I am not a great expert on mermaids. Manitou are more my field, because they still exist in my geographic area. They are really just water dragons.
And as for the Dolphins...I have had several very interesting encounters with them. Although I am only weakly empathic, I would swear that they were communicating with me. Their vocal language is among the most complex in the world, but I suspect that most of their culture and communcation lies on a telepathic level. That would be why humans have thus far failed to discover the true measure of their intelligence. Have you ever met a wild dolphin in the ocean? They look at YOU like you're in a zoo. They know exactly what's going on...Dolphins are the true People of the Sea.

thats honestly what I believe!
and yeah, if they aren't sentient, they're very close to it and may be someday

I find the theory on underwater vampires very exciting! And you might have a point concerning dolphins...they are not the loveable innocent little creatures we have been told they are. THey are fiercely protective of their terrotory, young and group integrity. I have seen dolphins single out individuals who got too close for comfort, seriously injuring them and there have been reports of dolphins actually drowning those who do not follow the correct protocol when entering their territory...makes you think!

I also find sirens facinating - she-daemons with the power to cloud the minds of sailors... It's just as if there really should be another civilisation down there - and I'm not talking Atlantis - that''s a whole other ball-game...

In recent times, attacks on humans by dolphins have become more common. Dolphins were once almost entirely friendly and outgoing. Now, they ram motorboats to puncture holes in the side, and then try to drag the human boaters underwater. My theory is that 1) they have noticed the dreadful condition of the oceans 2) they know precisely who is responsible 3) they are fighting back in the only way they can.

I would be curious to see what would happen if a strongly telepathic vampire met a dolphin pod - perhaps if we could someone make contact, we could help them...just an idea. I'm always looking for ways in which vampires might use their nature to do some good. Crazy, I know, but I'm that sort of person.

Not crazy at all - I think your theory might just be spot on! I have had the priveledge of being in the water a small pod of dolphins when I was...younger...They really do look at you with an unsettling curiosity. As far as their language is concerned - I think the clicking etc = just a way of navigation - like today's GPS systems...Their true language must be telepathic/empathic...

I think you have a point about that GPS system thing. According to science, their sonar is inaudible to human ears...but to vampires, that would be an entirely different story. Did you know that in Japan, they still eat Dolphin? Barbarians. Once while I was in Alaska, I saw a japanese whaling boat (I have some theories about whales too) so I swam out to it, came up underwater, and ripped the bilge manifolds out of the bottom. They were in life rafts withing two hours.

You should've made a meal out of them...then again I don't much fancy junk food!
