-PROLOGUE/INTRODUCTON-
"Oh my god! Oh my god!"
"Shut up! Shut it matt for god sake!"
"Jess! Jess baby tell me you got that, you must've got it it was right in front of is holy hell!"
Jess fumbled with the video camera as the group crouched behind the snow covered tree stump. It was too dam hard to press it's buttons with gloves on. The group had kept winter clothes to a minimal just in case they had to run, just incase something like this happened. But gloves couldnt be helped.
"Jess?"
"Matt shut the hell up I'm trying!"
"Oh god man, John man, oh god man! He was like some kind of devil man or something!"
"Matt seriously dude, you gotta shush man i gotta listen"
"What the hell man? You never saw his god dam eyes man! Ok? You never saw it dont tell me to shutup! They where red! they where red John! Whos eyes are red you fag! No-ones!"
Jess started to shake as she watched the footage, her voice, her plea was a shaking, begging whimper. "Matt...baby you gotta stay quite...please?"
"Jess seriously give me a dam break alright! We gotta get out of here ok? we gotta go! Now!"
John whirled round in a flash of fury grabbing matt by the neck in a friends firm grip. "Dude. we are lost. We are in the middle, of, the woods. I..dont...know...which way we have to go to get back. Shut...up."
Matt repeated the words in a whisper..."We're...lost?
"You know..."
They all span to the voice. Matt let out a whimper.
"It's not very nice to take my picture without asking. But...if you want something to put in the paper..."
Somehow the very air around the cloaked sillouhette began to hum with evil.
"I'm feeling very generous."
The headline read, "Three students in horrifying animal attack." subtitled, "Authorities still looking for the rest of the limbs."
- CHAPTER ONE -
The coached hummed, the window vibrating making sleeping against it increasingly difficult. Tavian watched as the weather changed, his eyes towards the skies as rolling clouds moved like whales. There was a fracture as a blue crack split across the roof of the world. Lightening unzipping the bulging mist that carried torrents of water. All it took was that one strike, he watched as drops began to smash like glass into the coach and road. It soon became heavy and the entire coach was lost in a haze of storm rain. Tavian barely made out the road sign through the heavy fall, but it read: "WELCOME TO SILVER CREEK"
They where there, it would probably be a few more minits before they reached the bus depot further in town. His thoughts drifted to the clothes he was wearing. Rough blue denim jeans and boots, a grey tight T-shirt under his sueade brown jacket. It was all going to get soaked, wasnt it supposed to be sunny here?
Ten minits later the bus thundered into town turning like a giant sea creature in the heavy rain into the mouth of the bus depo. Pulling his dufflebag out of the overhead compartment Tavian commented to the bus driver as he made his way out. "Can't wait till the rains over."
The bus driver raised his eyebrows looking at him, "Over? Boy...you've never been here before have you?...Hah...over...what a joke."
Tavians unshaved face and short hair made him look like he wasnt one to mess with, plus his muscles where clearly visible even beneath the sueade jacket...the driver decided to be polite.
"Young man it's been raining here longer than i can remember, if it stops then thats just God's mercy so we dont flood! You pay a lot for the ticket to get here?"
Tavian nodded "Yea..."
"Well that sucks...coz your gonna need to buy an umbrella."
Tavian blew air through his nose in a short laugh "Great."
A couple of hours passed, Tavian leant against a metal sheet wall just outside of the bus depo. He had stood there for at least an hour waiting for another bus to take him to the small house he had recieved a letter about. And for that entire time the rain continued. It was a further five minits when an overwieght middle aged woman leaned out of a cafe doorway across the empty street. And shouted to be heard.
"Hey! Hey youngblood!"
He looked up and squinted through the sheets of water. "You mean me?"
"Who else?" Good point the street was deserted. "Listen! Radio says theres been an accident, your bus ain't comin! Where you headed?"
What did the letter say?...First avenue? "Fi-First Avenue!...I think."
"Thats three miles away! Why dont you come in a get some coffee maybe we can sort you with a ride?"
He looked at the cafe and realised it was actually quite big, an electric red neon sign sat on the roof. "Shelly's Diner" He was freezing...coffee sounded great. Nodding he picked his dufflebag up and ran across the empty roads.
The middle aged woman held the door open for him as he walked in sideways to fit through the door. He drew attention as he came in. His thickset frame was always noticed. He worked out a lot, took his mind of things. "Take your jacket of youngblood your gonna catch your death." The woman started to peel the jacket from him as he set his bag down.
"Whats your name muscles?"
"uh...Tavian."
She looked up, "Tavian...good name. My names sittin on the roof, you see it?"
"uh...Shelly?"
"Sure as hell aint diner. What do you want to eat? Someone big as you gotta be hungry."
"um its ok, im good wth coffee, thankyou."
"Suit yourself, take a seat I'll bring it over."
"Thanks, thankyou."
Tavian sat down at a table for four by the window. Storm rain poured down the glass.
"Told you you shouldve bought an umberella."
Tavian turned to see the coach driver with a mug of coffee.
"Oh, hey."
Tavian noticed the driver was quite fat and had trouble sittng down opposite Tavian, as if his hips were giving him pain.
"Ahh...dam hip. got it replaced years ago...blasted thing dont sit too well on long coach journeys. it's why I hate the airport pickup job."
"Why'd you do it?" If Tavian was going to be here for a while, he would need to make friends.
"We'll cant have the missis being the only breadwinner now can I...busted hip or not."
"The missis?"
Shelly's voice inturrupted as she brought over a thick white mug of coffee and a small china jug of milk. "That's right-" setting the two items on the table she put an arm around the coachdrivers shoulders. "-Goin on thirty years now, me and Ed. Old dog makes money just fine, just likes to play hero is all."
Ed took a sip of his coffee, but it didnt hide the embarrased smile. "Well-" He said looking up at her with an obvious love. "Seeing as I'm such a hero..."
"uh hu?"
"'I've gotta go to steves hardware shop, gotta pick up some wood for the kitchen cabinets back home sweetheart, so, why don't i take our youngblood here into town with me and I'll drop you of at first ave after that?"
Shelly smiled at him and looked to Tavian, "How about that muscle boy? Think you can help my man carry some wood in an exchange for a ride?"
Tavian nodded wide eyed, "That would be great, of course i would, you sure?"
"yea dont worry about it, my hips playing up so the extra help would be great. Finish up that coffee so you dont freeze and we'll be on our way."
