The way I see it, lycan was obviously borrowed from "lycanthrope" which is just another word for werewolf. So Lycan=werewolf.

You should never give up hope that you will one day see the blessing, and see the purpose, in what you now can only see as suffering. I believe in my heart that we are all here for a very important reason, it’s just that many of us aren’t quite sure what that reason is, and that’s o.k.--the important thing is to live your life with wisdom, integrity, and thoughtfulness and the purpose will take care of itself and reveal itself in time.
